Assalamualaikum.
What is corpus? Corpus
is used to refer to a huge compilation and collection of text. Corpus
represents a particular variety or use of language that are presented in
machine readable form. The computers play a big role in corpus linguistic as it
helps to store a huge amount of texts, to retrieve huge amounts of text more
rapidly, to retrieve words, phrases or whole texts in context, to sort out
linguistic items, to increase reliability in searching, counting and sorting
linguistic items and last but not least to provide accurate probability of
occurrence of specific linguistic items.
With corpus, it helps to facilitate people’s life to do their research. It also helps the people to solve various problems and make a differentiation between other country languages and cultures. Corpus also studies the performance of the people and how they generate the language. In sum, corpus is a great invention as it helps the researcher to do their research in doing a study of language and it contributes a lot as it provides many data and information from other languages around the world.
Reflection
To
study about language is like to study the uniqueness of Allah’s creations. With
corpus linguistic, we can realize that language is a very important medium for
human being. Every language also has its
own specialty and this also shows the greatness of Allah’s creation. Allah
creates different languages, in different structures and forms in it are not to
make difficulty in the life of human being but to differentiate each language
with others. So, corpus helps people to
know other languages at the same time and assist them to learn the wonderful of
different languages. Allah SWT has mentioned in the Qur'an, surah Al-Nahl verse 125,
In the above verse, Allah SWT explained to right way to use language, which is with wisdom and beautiful words so that people will be attracted to Islam. By using the beautiful and humble manner in speaking, people will feel respected and this is the way in which Allah SWT has command us to do. Speak beautifully and with wisdom. Do not insult and use improper words to speak to someone, even though to your enemy.
