1. Did the course incorporate the use of computer in the
teaching and learning?
Yes. In grammatical analysis, computer was used in
teaching and learning to enhance the understanding of students and to make it
easier to deliver the topics in the course. The function of computer for
example, Microsoft Power Point makes it possible to compress all the elements
of grammar in a simple slide and table. Moreover, it triggers the students’
mind to focus on the colorful slides and helps them to easily recall what they
have learned. In addition when the students are doing the assignments and using
the computer to type, the auto-correct grammar checker helps to indirectly
taught them and automatically they realized their mistakes and later they will
not repeat the same mistake in writing.
2. Are the computer activities related to any of the
three stages of call?
Yes. Behaviorist call is one of the stages that
related to grammatical analysis learning because when the students are studying
grammatical analysis, the teacher will use the computer as the
mechanical tutor in their teaching. The teacher will use slideshow from Microsoft power
point to facilitate them in teaching method. Besides that, by using computer as
the mechanical tutor, many visual aids can be shown to the students so that the
learning can become more interesting and entertaining. Furthermore, using
computer as a mechanical tutor can help the students memorize well the
information as the computer provides many programs to make the teacher tutor
more entertaining with more colorful graphic and design.
Another stage that is related to grammatical analysis
learning is integrative call. In integrative call, computer acts as a tool
during the learning activities. With computer, the students able to refer
easily their grammatical mistakes as the computer able to analyze the
grammatical mistakes in the sentences. It also helps to correct the spelling of
the words. It also assists the teacher during the learning process as it
provides more information as a reference for the teacher.
3. What are the important concepts in the three stages
related to the activities?
The important concepts in the three stages which are related to the activities are the functions of computer and the importance of it in language learning. By using computer as the mechanical tutor, many visual aids can be shown to the students so that the learning can become more interesting and entertaining. Furthermore, it can help the students memorize well the information as the computer provides many programs to make the teacher tutor more entertaining with more colorful graphic and design.
For all the answers above, we can clearly see that computer helps in learning and teaching the grammatical analysis subject to the students. As a student and a Muslim, we should always try to find an alternative to learn more. As the time passed, the advance of technology makes it easier for us to learn. By using computer not only as a tool in learning but also in teaching, we can become a more knowledgeable person insyaAllah.
Electronic portfolio is one of the technologies which provide new ways for the students to make their own portfolio. By using portfolio, it shows that the teaching method is more updated than few years ago and it gives a lot of convenience especially to the students and teachers to conduct their assessments and research. By using electronic portfolio also, students will be able to show their creativity in editing, creating, selecting, organizing and evaluating their works. Besides, technology also assists students to find more input in research and provides many ways for them in order to gain more knowledge. Not only that, teachers also can gain benefits from the electronic portfolio as it is helping them in evaluating the students’ works. It also works very well in detecting plagiarism and some of the errors in students’ portfolio especially in term of grammar can be detected quickly by using technology. At the same time, students are also able to share their portfolio to their teachers, parents and classmates around the world by displaying, sharing and presenting their electronic portfolios.
Reflection
Muslim should use the technology wisely as it helps the Muslim community to spread religion of Islam for example electronic portfolio. Electronic portfolio also can be a medium for the Muslim to expose and spread Islam to the non Muslim. They can learn more about Islam by using the electronic portfolio. All the technologies nowadays are knowledge from Allah SWT and Muslim should not misuse but apply it in a good manner. Portfolio also can be used to defend Islam and correct all the misinterpretations of Islam in the eyes of non Muslim. On the other side of the coins, technology may astray us from our daily works and interrupts our social relationships. As a Muslim, we should not go beyond the limit of rule of Islam and we should be able to uphold to the Qur’an and sunnah.
Even though electronic portfolio does has some disadvantages as it is distracting people, it can also benefit a lot in gaining some information and knowledge and it is faster.
