As Dr. Rozina taught us in the class, concordance is a collection of the occurrences of word-form. It is an index of word form. Concordance is used in language teaching and learning, data mining and data clean-up, literary and linguistic scholarship, translation and language engineering, corpus linguistics, natural language software development, lexicography, and content analysis in many disciplines including accountancy, history, marketing, musicology and many more. Concordancer whereas make wordlists and can be arranged. It can also include frequency and percentage of words. Besides that, concordancer can make wordlists of occurrence of each word in its context. Not only that, concordancer can handle large texts, save and print the selected wordlist.
There are some major concordance program for PC such as The Oxford Concordance Program (OCP), Word Cruncher, Tact and other software like The Child Language Analysis (CLAN), COALA, and The Longman Mini Concordancer (LMC). Example of the most common concordance web is WebCorp.
Reflection
As can be seen from the above, concordance does help a lot in language learning. It helps to find the occurrence of wordlists and time saving. As Allah SWT mentioned in the Qur'an about knowledge in Surah Al-Hajj verse 54,
As explained by Allah SWT on the above verse, Al-Qur'an is the ultimate truth and guidance to man. As a Muslim, we should use the Qur'an as the primary source to look at. To compare, the Qur'an is just like a concordance. For example if we want to count to occurrence of word "love" used in the Qur'an. As we all might be aware of, the word "love" is mentioned many times in the Qur'an. This shows that Allah SWT is truly the Most Knowledgeable and the Most Intelligent. He knows everything even the secrets that we keep. Subhanallah.
